Succulents and cactus are the best plants to have at home if you’re a busy person. They don’t need too much care and are very resistant. But they still need you to treat them carefully because, believe it or not, they can die. These three tips are the basis for the good care of your green friends:
- SOIL: Always use a good quality soil. That one with perlite (those tiny white pearls) because they help water easily drain while retaining a little moisture. Change the soil the succulents come in and renew it every year. This way you’re sure that the plant is taking all the nutrients it needs to be healthy. Also, make sure that the soil has an adequate drainage, by putting a small layer of gravel at the bottom of the container. Place your plants according to the look you’re looking for and add another layer of gravel at the top of the soil.
- WATER: Better less water rather than over-watering. Water your succulents when the soil is completely dry. Experts recommend once a week during summertime, and once or twice a month during cold months. Always pour the water directly into the soil, keeping the succulent’s leaves dry. Another good practice is keeping them away from pouring rain. They love rainwater, but save it in a container and then pour it carefully.
- SUNLIGHT: Succulents really need plenty of sunlight so place them near a window or outdoor. But, make sure they don’t get too much direct sunlight. Four to five hours a day is the best.
I hope that these tips help you grow healthy and beautiful succulents. I’m not a plant expert but since I love to keep my home full of green plants I try to research a lot about their care.
